This recipe brings back memories of juggling a job, raising children, trying to stretch a buck, being the best mother I could and putting  good meals on the table.

There is nothing fancy about this Stroganoff but it always delivered on a household favorite! It is a comfort food to me because I find it comforting that I still like the taste and there is something to be said about a food or meal that can take you back in time with fond memories. I don’t make this much anymore but when I do it is always a treat!

Ingredients:

1 pound hamburger or ground turkey

1 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup)

1/4 cup margarine or butter

2 tablespoons flour

1 tsp salt

1 large clove garlic, finely chopped

1/4 tsp pepper

1 can (15 ounces) mushroom stems and peices, drained

1 can (10 3/4 oz) cream of chicken soup

1 cup sour cream or unflavored yogurt

3 cups hot cooked egg noodles (about 8 ounces dry)

Directions:

Cook and stir meat and onion in butter in a large skillet until hamburger is light brown. Stir in flour, salt, garlic, pepper and mushrooms. Cook stirring constantly for about 5 minutes. Stir in soup. Heat to boiling while stirring; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered about 10 minutes. Stir in sour cream; heat through. Mix the noodles into the meat and mushroom mixture.
